Did Speed Jump the Shark with Fast Track to Fame? (And
Other Mid-Week Musings)
By
Dennis Michelsen
Just
when you thought it was safe to assume that Speed TV was run
by sane individuals along comes the new variety show Fast
Track to Fame. Monday night used to be a treat with
This Week in NASCAR. The departure of that show
left us with Jimmy Spencers new show Whats
the Deal along with Race Hub and that should
have been just fine. But no Speed TV had to find something
new and exciting. Why cant we just have racing and programs
about racing on a racing channel? Do race fans really want
to see the freaks of nature perform instead of race talk and
racing action? Part of me wonders if Speed TV jumped the shark
with this show and the other part of me wonders if I should
submit an application for my famous Chinchilla Taming Act.
Group
Hug for Junior Nation
Sunday
at Las Vegas Motor Speedway we learned three things. First,
Jeff Gordon is a gracious loser by saying the two tire call
was a good call after it cost the most dominant car to lose.
Second, Jimmie Johnson might have an even better team this
year. Finally, it is very obvious this will be a long year
for Junior Nation! How can three of the four cars at Hendrick
Motorsports start out strong and get better while one of the
cars always fades at the end of non-plate races? Maybe Junior
Nation can visit Ancestry.com and find out that Lance McGrew
is a distant relative of Tony Eury Jr so they can throw McGrew
under the same bus they used for Tony Jr last season! Hope
sprung eternal after a mad dash for second place at Daytona
but two middle of the pack races makes you wonder if anything
has changed this year. Perhaps it is time for a big group
hug for Junior Nation.
Montoya
It Is What It Is
When
I saw Juan Pablo Montoya get crashed out of last weeks
race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway I had a feeling fireworks
would be flying back in the garage area. JPM speaks his mind
always! But I didnt think for a minute he would question
the driving ability of his teammate on national television.
This was one of the most bush league moves in the history
of NASCAR. On the flip side Jamie McMurray handled the questions
with class after the race. I suppose Jamie also understood
that when it comes to Montoya it is what it is
and what
it is can often be irritating!
