Killer Snapper Landed by Race Talk Radio Host
May 28, 2007 - (In the Swamp) Using only her bare hands, Lori Munro of Race Talk Radio and most known as a starving cartoonist at War-Wagon.com, landed the legendary "killer snapper" this morning that had moved onto her horse ranch.
"I saw him slowly climbing the muddy bank and immediately got on my hands and knees. My dog Carbon Super Sport figured it was time to play so my first job was to get him doing something else, so I told him that there were squirrels mocking him in the apple orchard".
The
rest is something only the late "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin would
be familiar with; stalking with stealth and utmost precision while the basking
reptile was unaware of what was about to happen.
Hoping to not loose a digit, Munro reached through the vegetation and dragged the wet creature up the embankment.
The snapping turtle is one of two species of edible freshwater turtles (family Chelydridae) named for their method of biting. Snapping turtles are found in North and Central America and are noted for their large size and aggressive nature. They are tan to black in color and have a rough upper shell, a small, cross-shaped lower shell, a long tail, and a large head with hooked jaws.
"Oh, he is a beauty, a magnificent creature.... simply captivating ... his ridged shell and long tail are reminiscent of the dinosaur era" stated Munro, "nice critter but I didn't want to start losing pets and other aquatic life with the behemoth pet of Satan with jaws that could rival Darrell Waltrip's".
Tune in to RaceTalkRadio this week to hear about the adventure and Lori's race truck show, the "Cargo Light Review" on Wednesday to hear what happened to the turtle.
