2008 Fantasy Racing Guide

2/1/08: SOZ Studios, MI - By Dennis Michelsen "DMIC" (RaceTalkRadio.com)

This might indeed be the craziest NASCAR season we have ever seen! How will the Toyota camp do in year two? Will the COT adapt to speedway racing right away? Can Hendrick Motorsports win as many races? With so much uncertainty this is the ultimate year to play NASCAR Fantasy Racing! Welcome to the seventh annual Fantasy Racing Guide. Today we will discuss some of the excellent free and for fee games I have run across in the past.

Free Games

Rowdy Driver Zone

The folks over at Rowdy.com asked me to help them develop the ultimate Fantasy Racing game and I think we have one the fans will love! Simple to play but tough to dominate, the Rowdy Driver Zone will challenge rookie and veteran Fantasy Racing players alike. Weekly and season long prizes will be available and Race Talk Radio listeners can play along in their own league too. Our fine sponsors here at Race Talk Radio will be kicking in some prizes too. Come on down to Rowdy.com and play the Rowdy Driver Zone with us this season…it won't be boring! Each week players have to pick their drivers from the various zones that include "Damn Yankees," "Hell Raisers," and "Bachelor Zone." Each zone contains three drivers and you have to pick the one that will finish higher. If you can pick a perfect seven you can win a driving experience and challenge the Monster Mile! Best of all it is free to play all season.

Yahoo Fantasy Racing

This game has been around for years and is still one of the most challenging around. Players have to pick from three different categories. You can only pick a driver nine times all season, which adds to the strategy! Players can even enter more than one private group so if you can take care of multiple requests from friends to play in their group while only managing one team!

ESPN Fantasy Racing

This season RaceTalkRadio will have our own division at ESPN Fantasy Racing. In addition to RTR personalities we are recruiting seven more players to take place in the league. If you would like to become a member of our race game group drop me an email and I will make sure you get an invitation. But you better bring your "A-Game" because we will be playing to win! The draft aspect of this game is fun because your prediction of who will do better this year comes into play. http://games.espn.go.com/frontpage/racing

Pay Games

Pay the Fan

This game made its debut last season and paid out an amazing $150,000 first prize during the Chase for the Championship. In 2008 the top player each week will take home $3000 with the overall winner grabbing a grand prize of $150,000! The amazing thing is that to get a shot at the cash will only cost you $49.95 for the entire season! But Race Talk Radio listeners can save $5 by entering "RTR" at checkout. Each week players have to choose drivers from three different levels. Adding to the strategy each driver can only be used six times all season! Each week on Fantasy Insight we will let you know who took home the big money at Pay the Fan!  http://paythefan.com

Chris's Fantasy Racing

My racing buddy Chris Townley runs this semi-private game. Each year our circle of Fantasy Racing friends expands by a few more and if you want to join us this season drop me a line for more information. The fun thing is that since the group is small you have a good chance of winning cash versus games where you are up against 50,000 players. 100% of the money paid in by the players is paid out in prize money! dennis@racetalkradio.com for details.

Conclusion

While there are literally hundreds of Fantasy Racing games out there the ones mentioned above made my TOP FIVE for 2008! If you know of a racing game you think I should try out let me know about the game. Perhaps after I test it out this year it will make my list of top games next season. Enjoy your Fantasy Racing season and tune into RaceTalkRadio.com every Wednesday night for Fantasy Insight for help in your race handicapping. Lori Munro (LAM) , Mike Harper (SOZ), and myself (DMIC) will go head to head every week picking the winners and losers in Cup, Nationwide, Craftsman Truck and ARCA races.
