NASCAR Should Suspend Kevin Lepage

4/28/08: SOZ Studios, MI - By Dennis Michelsen "DMIC" (RaceTalkRadio.com)

Saturday's Nationwide series race at Talladega featured one of the most insane wrecks of all time! Drivers make mistakes all the time and I do not want to see NASCAR micromanage the sport. But when a driver makes such a glaring mistake as Kevin Lepage did on Saturday NASCAR needs to take a very firm stance. In any sport when a participant makes a really bad move they often get punished by the organizing body of the sport. If a pitcher throws a bean ball at the batter they usually get suspended. If a basketball player undercuts a player going up for a dunk they usually get suspended. If a hockey player swings a stick at his opponent they usually get suspended. Kevin Lepage's move could have killed somebody! If a rookie made that mistake they would not be racing the following week. NASCAR would make them prove they were not a danger to their fellow competitors or themselves. NASCAR should suspend Kevin Lepage to send a message that idiotic moves will not be tolerated!

Another First Time Woman Winner

Just a week after Danica Patrick became the first woman to ever win in an Indy car, Ashley Force became the first woman to win a race in Nitro Funny Cars. This was the third final in a row that she qualified for and Ashley Force has been leading the points. But this time around she won in the final! This history-making event was even more amazing when you consider her competition. Ashley Force beat her Dad for the win! Can you imagine how crazy this could get if Force battles Force for the Funny Car title?

Go Speed Racer

Congratulations to former Formula One driver Scott Speed for winning his first ARCA RE/Max Series race at Kansas Speedway. Even more impressive was Speed's success in the NASCAR Craftsman the next day. Some will point to the success of Speed's car in ARCA and suggest it was more car than driver. But in the Craftsman Truck series he certainly didn't have better equipment than twenty of his fellow drivers yet he posted a strong top ten finish! Speed Racer is an exciting addition to stockcar racing!

The Rowdy Way

Kyle Busch is getting credit for showing better patience and that is why he is suddenly winning so many races. Every time I hear a reporter ask him about his increased patience behind the wheel I can't control my laughter. If a guy is all over the track and crashes he is labeled as being reckless. Now if that same driver manages to escape disaster and win all of a sudden he is showing more patience. Kyle Busch does it the rowdy way each and every race. Patience is a virtue so they say and thankfully for race fans one virtue Kyle Busch will never master! Kyle is winning the rowdy way!

Racing Overdose

Thanks to modern technology a race junky can have their NASCAR race and their short track fix too! This weekend was a racing overdose. Setting up the VCR and the DVD recorder before hitting the road to O'Reilly Raceway Park I was ready for the weekend! In addition to broadcasting the triple-header weekend of ASA Late Model Series action for RaceTalkRadio I also caught all three NASCAR races on tape. Toss in an ARCA race, the last 20 laps of the Indy race, and NHRA drag racing from Atlanta and you have the ingredients for a racing overdose!
