Hamlin Nails Three Pointer at the Buzzer

5/4/08: SOZ Studios, MI - By Dennis Michelsen "DMIC" (RaceTalkRadio.com)

Denny Hamlin put on an amazing show Friday night winning the Lipton Tea 250 with an unbelievable three pointer from way downtown! It appeared this game was going to be dominated by Carl Edwards, but the ref blew his whistle sending Edwards to the line where he missed both free throws. A great inbound play was drawn up in the huddle by the Z-Line Designs team setting up that thrilling shot from three-point land! Hamlin was held to an anemic 12 points but thrilled the hometown crowd with that last minute hoop. Hey race fans…do you remember when ESPN valued NASCAR?

Ratings Up Respect Down

Back in the day NASCAR racing was one of the only pro sports that ESPN was able to cover. They threw their heart and soul into giving us the best coverage money could buy! But since the Busch/Nationwide Series returned to ESPN NASCAR has been treated like a second-class sport citizen at times. This Friday night NASCAR racing got the boot in favor of buckets. The asinine thing is that NASCAR racing has ratings going up while basketball ratings are flat! I know pro basketball playoffs are a big deal to ESPN but if you say the race is going to be covered you should cover it! The week before the Nationwide race was moved to ABC because of other sporting events including the NFL Draft! Ratings might be up for NASCAR at all ESPN properties online and on television but the respect is dropping at an alarming rate!

RaceTalkRadio Coverage from the Rock

A lot of work goes into planning for featuring racing on radio or television. RaceTalkRadio understands this and is live at Rockingham Speedway this week! Sure we had to shuffle some of our NASCAR post race to fit this coverage in but we will also bring you the race recaps live from NASCAR for all day events! Do you miss Rockingham? Tune into RaceTalkRadio to enjoy live coverage and we will give you every green flag lap commercial free! (Coverage is also available on Speed TV, check over to RaceTalkRadio for prerace coverage starting at 10:30am ET and post race stuff too)

Do You Want NASCAR or Not?

NASCAR fans have invested lots of time supporting ESPN this season! Fantasy Racing is up and ESPN.com's NASCAR section are both way up this season! ESPN's "NASCAR Now" show has gone through several reincarnations and changes and their ratings are up. Why should NASCAR fans support ESPN's NASCAR shows if ESPN doesn't give a darn about NASCAR fans? If it wasn't for the fear of revolt the race would have only been available on channels no one gets! Thank goodness SPEED TV stepped up to give race fans the coverage we deserve!  So ESPN I ask you once and for all, "Do you want NASCAR or not?"

Triangle Offense NASCAR Style

Denny Hamlin is usually good to post a few triple-doubles from time to time! But on this night his shot was a bit off until that last minute shot. This hot shot point guard hit a shot from the next time zone to send his Toyota Camrys to the next round of the playoffs! This prime time player is awesome baby with a capital "A." (Thank you Dickie V) Hey ESPN if NASCAR is a second-class citizen then turn in your coverage the rest of the season! If you don't feel good enough about NASCAR to move them to ABC for prime time then the least you could do is shuffle the basketball game over to ABC instead. Hamlin nails a three pointer at the buzzer to win a classic game at Richmond!
