Explaining the Racing Addiction
So many people just don't understand the need to watch racing. How can you watch guys drive around in circles? They might be racing five hundred miles but they end up in the same place…how stupid is that? Non-racing fans think we are nuts! But some of those same people paint themselves in team colors and scream like idiots at football games so they are not reliable tests of character or common sense. There is a need to explain this racing addiction.
Sights and Smells
No matter how many races I attend as a fan or media I still get that feeling when I walk into the track. Maybe this is the first trip there or I might be returning to a track I consider an old friend but the feeling is the same. No matter how exhausted I get driving cross-country to the next race the adrenalin starts to flow when I see and smell the track! Maybe this is something impossible to explain to a non-racing fan. But think of that first time walking through the tunnel into a famous baseball park as a kid and you will understand the feeling I get every week at the track!
Professional Help Needed
As Daytona gets closer do you feel that little rush returning? If you are a truly addicted fan then the sights and sounds from practice was enough to get your pulse racing! Wednesday night during our weekly dirt racing show "Clamped Up" I was interviewing Tony V from the World of Outlaws. During the interview the sounds of big block modifieds running time trials was in the background causing my concentration to fade. I could see those cars sliding sideways through the turns throwing clumps of clay into the faces of those gawking in turn four by the fence! Professional help is needed.
Paging Doctor Fraud
Thankfully the good Doctor Sigmund T. Fraud lives just up the block. After years of living a few short miles from Sycamore Speedway the good doctor is an expert on this racing addiction phenomenon. "Zee brain cells are connected in very interesting zays," exclaimed Doc Fraud as he fixed me a hot cup of cocoa. "Vee can't fight zees addictions without causing great harm to our delicate psyches. Relax and enjoy zee racing or your diastolic reverberational anxieties vill versen." I thanked the good doctor and shook my head as I walked back to my humble abode. No I was clueless what any of that meant but the cocoa was great.
Just Give In and Enjoy
Don't even try to explain the addiction. From this Saturday until you sit down for Thanksgiving dinner with the family savor your racing addiction! Some race fans limit their addiction to just the Cup level of NASCAR racing. But I urge you to enjoy every type of racing you can expose yourself to this season! The ARCA RE/MAX series on SPEED will be intriguing each and every week. May 4th us racing junkies get to head back to Rockingham Speedway and welcome this great track back to its rightful place in the racing kingdom! Head out to your local short track whether it is dirt, clay, or asphalt and see men and women racing just for the hell of it. Just give in and enjoy your racing addiction this season!
