Good Old Bristol - Making the Grade Bristol 2
168,000 race fans are all the proof you need that Bristol Motor Speedway is the best track on the NASCAR circuit! The new progressive banking has let the drivers pass without ripping the back bumper off the car in front of them. But the bump and run is still in style at BMS as we saw as Concrete Carl made the move on Rowdy Busch! Good old Bristol is better than ever!
Race Grade: A
Yes I am biased towards short tracks but this race had it all. We didn't see as many passes for the lead but there was no shortage of action throughout the pack. Speed Channel did a better job on Wednesday night than ESPN did on Saturday night but the race itself was thoroughly entertaining!
F for Kasey Kahne's Luck
The Budweiser team has shot themselves in their own toes often enough this season but this week trouble found Kasey Kahne! There is no truth to the rumor that one of the All State MILFs is the spotter for Casey Mears. (Super sorry about your wreck Kasey and Casey) Just two races to go and now Kahne needs two top five finishes to have any chance of making the Chase for the Championship.
D for Casey Mears and His Spotter
This week the statement "Clear Low" cost five teams their car at Bristol Motor Speedway. Casey Mears was quick to throw his spotter under the bus and back over him, but at the end of the night Casey the steering wheel is in your hand! I am still puzzled why Richard Childress is hiring him for next season but eh fabricators at RCR know they will not get laid off any time soon!
C for Regan Smith
This has been a disastrous year for Regan Smith. How much is driver talent and how much is the equipment is a big question. Will Regan be the next Joel Kaufmann and just disappear from the NASCAR scene or will a sponsor or team take a chance on this personable young man? Fourteenth place earns him a "C" this week.
B for Clint Bowyer
Usually the second best grade of the week is reserved for a driver that finished higher than seventh place. But Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway Clint Bowyer saved his season with an amazing drive! He got up on the wheel and drove an ill handling car to a top ten finish and kept himself inside the Chase for the Championship.
A for Carl Edwards
Concrete Carl leaned on Kyle Busch and did what he had to do to pass him for the win! Hopefully NASCAR will not take either driver to task for their post race performance. It is very clear that the two best teams have risen to the top. Maybe we can eliminate everyone else for the Chase and let these two duke it out!
