Did You Enjoy the Kevorkian 500? - Making the Grade California 2
So let's see a show of hands of all those people that enjoyed the race on TV Sunday night? As I figured only the real sadists in this world enjoyed the race from Fix a Flat Speedway in Southern California! If it wasn't for the millions of people that would be affected I would root for an earthquake to swallow this track whole. Ontario Speedway was great! Riverside Speedway was fantastic! So why couldn't they build a decent track here? Forget the current sponsorship. I am suggesting a new sponsor for this event next season! Call Jack Kevorkian because after watching this race hundreds of thousands of race fans were dangerously close to losing their will to live!
Race Grade: D
Even the most boring of NASCAR races has some redeeming feature to it so that is why this pathetic exercise in racing futility earned a "D" instead of an "F." The track can't be blamed for Jimmie Johnson stinking up the show but they can be blamed for other failures! It will be a relief that our holiday race will never be here again!
F for California Speedway Maintenance
It should not come as a surprise to the maintenance department that race cars going by at 200mph create a lot of turbulence! Two caution light failures make it obvious that while they pay the big bucks to get hacks like has been comedian Drew Carey to give the command; they didn't spend the money to do basic maintenance!
D for Joe Nemechek
It was not a good week for Mr. Nemechek and Momma. First came the news that despite winning a pole at Talladega that Front Row Joe would be stay home Joe for the big Budweiser Shootout. Joe celebrated this disappointment by smacking his No. 78 car hard against the wall and finishing dead last!
C for Patrick Carpentier
This is one of the open wheel guys I was rooting to do better this season! Patrick Carpentier has learned his craft as a stockcar driver and is one of the most enthusiastic drivers in the sport. This week Gillette-Evernham signed Reed Sorenson putting Carpentier's future up for grabs. Qualifying 5th and finishing 18th was the best performance by a rookie this week.
B for Greg Biffle
Greg Biffle and his team used to have trouble closing the deal the last couple years but have turned into one of the most consistent teams in the series! When you don't shoot yourself in the foot you can pencil yourself in as a Chase qualifier. Now comes the ultimate test with the playoffs just around the corner. Back in 2005 Biffle proved he can be consistent enough when the pressure is on to win it all!
A for Jimmie Johnson
Insomniacs all over the world are applauding Jimmie Johnson's dominant performance in the Kevorkian 500 on Sunday night! Jimmie stunk up the show with one of the most dominant performances this season. Secret video even shows NASCAR officials loosening the brackets holding the caution lights in place to get cautions to tighten up the field! Once again Johnson and his team are heating up at the right time.
