Penske Painful - Wednesday Whining

9/3/08: SOZ Studios, MI - By Dennis Michelsen "DMIC" (RaceTalkRadio.com)

If wasn't that long ago that Penske Racing was the place champions came to race! Not only will Penske not have a driver in the Chase for the Championship, one of their guys fell out of the top 35 after California Speedway. How could the mighty fall so fast in NASCAR while staying at the top in IRL? Is it a lack of focus or the departure of good people in management? Rusty Wallace would love to have people think it is him but the problems run much deeper! The Sam Hornish Jr experiment was an incredible failure. Swapping points made the first five races weird for the No. 2 team that should have been their hope for the Chase. Crew Chief swaps in previous years and other movement of key personnel have let this team slide from one of the elite in the business to a second tier team at best. Now comes the departure of Ryan Newman and while his replacement David Stremme is one of the most underrated drivers in the garage area, Stremme doesn't have the talent to carry a poor car. Sponsors are tough to come by and Alltel will be leaving soon due to company changes. Will this team have to shrink down to two drivers in 2009? I wonder what Kurt Busch thinks about his move to leave Roush-Fenway Racing now!

See what the QUICK CHANGE panel thinks about this situation tonight at 8pm eastern exclusively on RaceTalkRadio!

Wednesday Wonderful-Special Ragan Delivery
In the past 25 races we have seen that the No. 6 car has a driver worthy of taking over for Mark Martin! David Ragan has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the 2008 season. Even bigger and better things are on the way for this talented youngster. Not only can he drive the wheels off of the car but he also represents his sponsor with class without being a stuffed shirt! Drivers are afraid to speak their minds in this day and age but David Ragan is a breath of fresh air. This guy is the eternal optimist when you hear him speak so that is a definite upgrade versus the eternal pessimist Mark Martin that used to occupy that seat. Roush-Fenway Racing is set for the long term with one of the most exciting drivers on the NASCAR circuit. UPS is making a big upgrade in driver by grabbing David Ragan was their new driver. They said they wanted a "Rock Star" to represent their brand and they have a rising star that will wear the colors proud!
