The Richmond night race in September is always one of the most anticipated race weekends of the year! Just a few years ago this was still a triple header of racing with the Craftsman Trucks on Thursday, Busch on Saturday, and Cup on Sunday. Now we just get two races but never before have we seen a double rain out! Not since the release of the dates for Hannah Montana have we seen a Hannah cause so much disruption in everyone's lives! Better late than never our double header of NASCAR racing on Sunday was a hit!
Race Grade: A-
If you didn't enjoy this race there is no hope for you as a NASCAR fan! We had an unexpected leader (Reutimann) and a payback that might not have been a payback but was still exciting. Add in a frantic last green flag dash for the win and the script of this race is a sure hit!
F for Sam Hornish Jr
It never matters whether he causes the wreck or someone else does, the fact remains that Sam Hornish Jr is an accident magnet in NASCAR! This is quite ironic since his IRL career was marked by his ability to avoid trouble. What does this mean in the big scheme of things? It means NASCAR is not where Hornish belongs!
D for Red Bull Racing
What in the heck happened to the Dinger express? Before we knew it on Sunday the No. 84 car was behind the wall and the No. 83 found the wall later in the race. This was not a good weekend for the Red Bull Racing express!
C for Regan Smith
Another race and another average finish for Regan Smith. When you are racing for your NASCAR life a 23rd place finish is not the kind of result you need.
B for Dale Earnhardt Jr
I suppose Earnhardt Nation can find another reason to hate Tony Eury Jr because Junior didn't win. But the Junior fans sure had to love seeing their most hated rival spin with a little nudge from their favorite driver! Dale Earnhardt Jr was in the hunt all race and that is a good sign as we enter the playoffs!
A for Jimmie Johnson
Another race and another ho-hum blah as can be post race interview in Victory Lane for Jimmie Johnson. There is no doubt Johnson is one of the most talented drivers on the NASCAR tour but there is also little doubt he can be the most boring! But having an interesting personality has never been a requirement for being a NASCAR champion.
Extra Credit for David Reutimann
Any time you lead more laps in one race than you have in your entire career you deserve a little extra credit! But did anyone watching the race on Sunday at Richmond believe he was actually going to win? Whether it was a bad tire, missing lug nut or just fading late in the race we all knew David Reutimann was not going to win!
