Find Some New Clichés - Wednesday Whining

9/17/08: SOZ Studios, MI - By Dennis Michelsen "DMIC" (RaceTalkRadio.com)

My co-host on "Doin' Donuts" calls me the "King of Clichés" but I am sad to say it is time that I give up my throne! After listening to ESPN announcers race after race I have determined that I might be no better than 5th place in the "King of Clichés" contest. Rusty Wallace is always telling everyone that cat has an awesome hotrod and Doctor Jerry Punch has his money stop I can no longer compete! Add in the assorted experts in the garage area and pit road and that is quite the team of cliché all stars. Throw a blanket over them as they get the fishing pole out to reel in the competition, these stars of reporting on the cars have what it takes to make the former King of Clichés barf! What ever happened to at least TRYING to find something unique and interesting to say each week? Yes baseball announcers have their cutesy sayings but do we really need those in NASCAR too? These cats are doing an awesome job of covering the race and telling us the standings as they run right now from the wave of the green flag through the money stop and all the way to the closing laps! Please find some new clichés before I flip the sound over to MRN!

See what the QUICK CHANGE panel thinks about this situation tonight at 8pm eastern exclusively on RaceTalkRadio!

Wednesday Wonderful-Unproven Youngsters
Everyone that gets stick around at the NASCAR level is a talented driver! Yes money can buy your way up to the big leagues but you won't stick around unless you have skills. (Ask Kyle Krisiloff) But the thing that separates drivers in the most has always been and always will be opportunity! If Jeff Gordon had stayed with Bill Davis Racing he would have been successful in the sport but it is unlikely he would have won four titles. That doesn't mean if Jamie McMurray had been with Hendrick Motorsports he would have won four titles but you get the idea. Talent plus money plus opportunity equals speed which yields championships in NASCAR math! Who is the better young gun in NASCAR now? Reed Sorenson has yet to have good equipment under him. Regan Smith shows occasional signs of improving. Michael McDowell was awesome in good ARCA cars and mediocre in lousy Cup cars. Joey Logano didn't exactly wow them in his first Cup start. The big money is being bet on Joey Logano to be the next superstar of this bunch and he might because he has the best opportunity of the bunch. But my money would be on Michael McDowell if he ever got s similar shot at the big time!

Editor's Note: Each Wednesday Dennis Michelsen will look at the ups and downs of NASCAR racing! If you have a nominee for "Wednesday's Whine" or "Wednesday Wonderful" email Dennis at dennis@racetalkradio.com. If your subject is used you will win a prize from the great sponsors at RaceTalkRadio!
