Now THAT is Racing - Making the Grade Dover 2

9/23/08: SOZ Studios, MI - By Dennis Michelsen "DMIC" (RaceTalkRadio.com)

Can you imagine starting the Chase with this much excitement? The curious thing is why no one else has built a high banked one-mile track since Dover! The Monster Mile seldom disappoints when it comes to rockem sockem entertainment! Now if they could just find a way to squeeze one more pit box into the mix.

Race Grade: A+
Racing just doesn't get any better than three-wide for the lead in the closing laps! Add a fourth car to the mix and you have a barn burner that makes Dover the Monster Mile! If anyone tuned in or showed up for this race and wasn't entertained they need to find a new sport to follow.

F for Joe Gibbs Racing
Someone check JD and Joe to see if they have any toes left after their team shot themselves in the foot over and over the last two weeks! If your driver gets caught up in a wreck its bad luck. But having parts failures two weeks in a row at the most critical time of the season can be chalked up to either bad luck or a lack of focus.

D for Sam Hornish Jr
How many Hornish's does it take to cause a caution flag? Only one but they keep happening over and over and over! Is anyone happy with the Sam Hornish Jr NASCAR experiment? This team was given a gift of automatic entry into the first five races but has once again fallen out of the top 35 in Owner's Points!

C for Crew Chief Bob Osborne
It is hard to be too critical of a Crew Chief whose driver finishes in third place in a Cup race but Bob Osborne gave one away on Sunday. When you have the best car and are leading the race the number one rule is not to beat yourself. There were too many laps left to gamble on two tires when you had the best driver and car in the field!

B for Mark Martin
Next season look out because this is one old man that will rewrite the history books for the over 50 crowd! Rarely do drivers get better when they get their AARP card but Martin is one who just might. A positive Mark Martin in great equipment next season could be a scary combo when he has finished top five so many times in junk this year!

A for Greg Biffle
The Biff is peaking at just the right time and the competition better be scared! While Greg Biffle has had moments of shooting himself in the foot he can also get on a hot streak better and longer lasting than most! Two wins in a row could become three next week at Kansas.
