Aero Push This - Making the Grade Lowe's 2

10/14/08: SOZ Studios, MI - By Dennis Michelsen "DMIC" (RaceTalkRadio.com)

The racing was good on Saturday night but it could have been a lot better if not for those most dreaded words in racing. No the phrase is not "Jimmie Johnson wins again" it is that dreaded condition called "Aero Push." Saturday night drivers could gain huge chunks of ground on the car in front of them but once they got a sniff of the draft it seemed the car tightened up and made it difficult to pass. NASCAR needs to sit down with the brightest Crew Chiefs in the business and figure out a way to minimize Aero Push. If they can conquer that issue the racing will be better than ever with this new car!

Race Grade: B+
Saturday night's race at Lowe's Motor Speedway was further evidence that 500 mile races are not needed any more in this day and age of NASCAR. Shortening the races to just 400 miles would have prevented this riding along thing that we seem to get every week. The race was very entertaining but could be even better if there was more to race for every lap!

F for Carl Edwards
What in the heck happened to Carl Edwards' car on Saturday night? First they have a tire issue and have to pit on green to replace the right side tires. Then the car suddenly stalled out and ended his championship dreams sitting on pit lane with the hood up. At the beginning of the Chase Jack Roush said he thought Carl Edwards was ready to win a championship. Wait until next year!

D for Matt Kenseth's Luck
If you are a Matt Kenseth fan you must watch every race anticipating bad luck to strike your guy! Kenseth was not great but not awful on Saturday night but all hell broke loose right in his path. This time around it appeared Matt Kenseth made the right move to slow down only to get run over from behind!

C for Brian Vickers
Brian Vickers had the car to beat Saturday night and was pulling away from everyone before his tire deflated his hopes for victory! Not only did he get to the top but he was pulling away from the field. With some better luck and more improvement to the cars this team could qualify for the championship run next year.

B for Kurt Busch
Hiding in the shadow of his brother all year, Kurt had a rare strong run Saturday night at Lowe's Motor Speedway. It had been all the way back to Daytona in July since Kurt's last top five finish! If this new Dodge motor proves it can last look for Penske's teams to be running up front a lot more in 2009!

A for Jeff Burton
Always in the hunt, Jeff Burton finally bagged the big prize on Saturday night! One by one Chase for the Championship contenders keep shooting themselves in the foot. But Jeff Burton just keeps soldiering on with top ten finishes and is stalking Jimmie Johnson for that long overdue championship!
