Kyle "The Bulldozer" Busch - Inside the Mail Bag

When I suggested that Kyle Busch might be the intimidator of this decade I expected a lot of angry emails but I didn't expect so many suggestions! Every once in a while here at SOZ at RTR we like to go inside the mailbag and let the fans speak their minds. Strap in tight folks it is going to be a bumpy ride as we sample some of the better responses!

I do think you need to find another word for Kyle Busch... How about idiot? That about covers it. You say he will never be another Dale.... well DUH!!!!! So don't call him the next Intimidator. There is only ONE MAN that had EARNED the right to be called the

Intimidator and Kyle Busch is not even close to being worthy of the word.

My Response-Dawn I was very careful to use a small "i" on the word intimidator. Kyle fits the definition of the word but as I pointed out no one will ever be compared to Dale in fan following or earn the capital "I" on that word intimidator.

Oh please! Do not even mention him in the same breath as Dale. I think IDIOT would be more suitable. He and his brother both need a lesson in anger management before they kill someone----especially on pit road. Dale never did stuff like that. Don't take offense because I did enjoy your article. Can't really say what I think his nickname would be but is another name for a donkey.

My Response- Shirley are you Dawn's long lost sister? Kyle is rambunctious to say the least but brother Kurt is the only one to use his car as a weapon in the Busch family to my recollection. Take offense? Me? Never! Oh yes about that use of the word intimidator…my Dale portrait jumped out of the frame and rattled my cage today! Never again will I mention that word without it being attached to Dale! Great job on not picking up a 25 point penalty from NASCAR…the next writers were not as lucky!

Very original nickname you came up with, but I think Kyle "wrecking ball" Busch is more fitting. You see, there are great drivers, and then there are great racers. Every now and then, someone comes to the Cup level who is both (Matt Kenseth, Gordon, etc.). Kyle is only a great driver, but he needs to learn how to race. If he can learn how to race, he would likely dominate. Earnhardt was the Intimidator because if he was faster and you tried to keep him behind you, he would try seemingly impossible lanes and passes on opponents to surpass them. And if there was no alternative, he would stalk his opponent riding their a## (25pt penalty), until finally giving the guy in front of him a nudge if they didn't get the message. He respected his competitors and they respected him through and through.

My Response- Turn back the clock to 1979 and Dale didn't have the respect of his fellow competitors. In fact I think you would have found a high percentage that thought less of Dale than current drivers think of Kyle. Dale gave guys a nudge? Paging Terry Labonte…Terry Labonte will you please remind Dave of Bristol Motor Speedway.

Alright, in no way is Kyle any kind of intimidator. The "bulldozer" doesn't really work either. His four or five fans might like it though. Bottom line is, nobody likes him. He has talent, sure, but so do the other 42 drivers out there. He is an inconsiderate reckless a##-clown (25 pt penalty) with a fan base you can count on one hand. And no, I'm not a Junior fan; I'm a Harvick fan.

My Response- Inconsiderate and reckless are two words that many of his fellow drivers used when describing Dale Earnhardt at the beginning of his career. (Ask DW) Kyle only has four or five fans? Ouch! But I did find some of your suggestions amusing. But "Wall Magnet" or "The Whiner" or "Brother of Big Ears" or "Drives like a drunk chicken is flying up his rear" or "It's never my fault" or "Hope nobody beats me up today" or "I wish I had as many fans as Joe Nemechek" or "The Whoosie" or "The Idiot" or "The Moron" just don't have the same moxy that "The Bulldozer" does. So Zack what is wrong with Junior fans? Are you insulting Dale Earnhardt Jr fans by suggesting that you are too good to be one of them? WOW! Not even I would be brave enough to say that!

Hey, I'm a die-hard Dale fan. Seven years after we lost him my WHOLE house is still decorated in "DALE". I agree with you about Kyle. He probably is the most entertaining driver to watch SINCE Dale. New fans apparently don't remember that Dale in his younger years could be a brass, mouthy dude with a chip on his shoulder because he wanted to win so bad.

My Response- Finally someone that understood what I was trying to say in my article! I received over 80 emails on the other side screaming at me. There was even one email that questioned whether my parents were married when I was conceived! (For the record I was the youngest of six) Ladies and gentlemen I was NOT suggesting Kyle is as good as Dale Earnhardt or the NEXT Dale Earnhardt or will be as SUCCESFUL as Dale Earnhardt. Whether you like Kyle or you hate him he is entertaining! Thank you Marti! You were only one of two emails that had anything kind to say to me after my article about Kyle Busch being this decade's intimidator. (Yes Mom I will come over for dinner before the race on Sunday, now I have answered both of the nice emails)

Sorry folks but as tempting as it is to adopt the "Brother of Big Ears" for Kyle Busch's new nickname I think I will stick with "The Bulldozer." The merchandising ideas are endless so Joe Gibbs Racing and his sponsors better get to work right now! I can't wait to hear Larry Mac this week say, "We're coming to the white flag folks, one lap to go and here comes The Bulldozer on the outside!" Doesn't that have a wonderful ring to it?
