Sushi Anyone Counterpoint
Thanks to Jeremy for saying what a lot of fans are thinking! Made in America used to mean something but now it means your job just hasn't been outsourced yet. But holding Toyota to blame or any of the foreign carmakers is an interesting take on the subject. The fact remains that whether or not the profits go overseas the jobs to make many of the Toyota cars are here in the States. Our Government through our tax code is allowing our country to be sold off to China and other interests overseas. Just try to buy kitchen utensils that aren't made in China at your local Wal-Mart!
It's All About Competing
The Big 3 automakers in this country fell behind in making cars Americans wanted to drive! Big gas-guzzlers went the way of the Edsel yet Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler kept making them in big numbers. Quality is job one should have been the rule and if that happened the invasion would not have been successful. But that boat sailed long ago! People say one thing…buy American…then head to their big box store looking for a bargain that ends up being produced somewhere else. Everyone wants to save a buck and then bitch and moan when their job goes away…isn't that the American way?
Back to Racing
Say what you will about NASCAR but their goal is an even playing field. Why? If they have four or five or six manufacturers willing to spend money in the sport it is better for the NASCAR brand! Maybe Toyota has an edge right now in technology in the Truck Series and maybe NASCAR is looking the other way. Perhaps that series will be renamed the NASCAR Toyota Truck Series after this season! In Cup the difference was the figment of a reporter's inability to read data sheets correctly. Maybe the difference between the best Toyota and the worst Chevy was 30 horsepower. But the difference in this day and age of the Car of Tomorrow is nil. The better teams will win as they always have in NASCAR!
Coach Sold Out?
Joe Gibbs Racing made a smart business decision! Our very own Lori Munro my co-host on "Doin' Donuts" was equally outraged at the whole change. But the reality is that JGR was the third banana over at Chevy and are now the top dog at Toyota! If you had the chance to be the number one customer versus number five and the two products were the same, which one would you choose? The only argument that would make sense to be number five would be if you showed brand loyalty. But look at what General Motors did to Gibbs! They ran Pontiacs and GM stopped supporting that brand! Calling Joe Gibbs a sell out is where I think our fan columnist went wrong!
Wrapping It Up
Mouthing off is the right of anyone on this planet that lives in a free country! Thanks to people like Jeremy that aren't afraid to pound their chest and mouth off. Those statements he made came from the heart as did mine. From time to time when the fans have something to say RaceTalkRadio will give them the platform to make their statement. Contact me at dennis@racetalkradio.com if you want to try out for the next round of "Voice of the Fans." We might agree to disagree but we will show both sides of any story!
