ESPN Versus ESPN the Magazine
Can someone explain to me why ESPN the Magazine kept the Jack Roush comment about Toyota ending up with one of his parts a mystery from ESPN the website and ESPN the television channel? The whole debate about what Roush-Fenway Racing part was in some Toyota teams stuff is one thing. But the bigger debate is why ESPN's reporters didn't talk to each other! They try to sell NASCAR Now to us as the definitive news show of the sport but miss a story for two weeks that someone else at ESPN had the scoop on for two weeks. ESPN the Magazine didn't even get the scoop to JAYSKI, which is also owned by ESPN!
ESPN the Magazine Out of Context
If you were a reporter and the owner of one team made an accusation against another team wouldn't you did for more details? Jack Roush's quote sounded like someone snuck into their garage area and pilfered a proprietary part. ESPN's Terry Blount compared this incident to the McLaren versus Ferrari deal in Formula One that earned McLaren a fine larger than the gross national product of a third-world country! After the story surfaced the real reporters started doing their thing and asking some questions. Now it appears that instead of some clandestine cat burglar affair it was a case of a part getting put on the wrong table during a tear down inspection. Yes it would be understandable that Jack Roush would be upset even if the part ended up in Toyota's hands by accident. But to compare this to the Formula One deal is a joke!
NASCAR in Two Weeks
If you were running ESPN wouldn't you be ticked off that your premier NASCAR related television show didn't come up with the scoop of the year even though another ESPN entity had the scoop? Heads would roll if I were in charge! Then how would you feel when your reporter online suggests the incident might be as significant as the worst cheating ever done in Formula One without checking out the details first? Heads would roll if I were in charge! Maybe ESPN needs to change the name of their NASCAR news show to NASCAR in Two Weeks instead of NASCAR Now!
Is Jack Fighting Pearl Harbor Again?
There is no doubt that Jack Roush is not a fan of Toyota and being outspoken is the reason Jack is never boring when he talks to the media! Someone from Chevy could knock Jack over running through the garage area and he might not say a thing. But if someone from Toyota walked in front of him that would mean war! If paper work blew off the war wagon of the No. 17 car and was caught by a Toyota representative Jack wouldn't want to touch that paper ever again! Jack Roush is forever loyal to his brand and God love him for that! But whenever I hear another Jack Roush versus Toyota discussion I just can't help but think Jack is still fighting back for Pearl Harbor!
Dale Jarrett just retired and an exciting youngster Michael McDowell is making his debut at Martinsville. Two of Hendrick Motorsports' drivers that are always in the hunt are outside of the top 12 after five races. Chrissy Wallace is making her NASCAR debut this week too. Do you get the idea? Aren't there enough REAL stories to be chasing instead of this nuttiness about the missing part and who did what to who? Besides I have the definitive word on what happened in this whole Roush versus Toyota deal anyway. It was Colonel Mustard in the Garage Area with the Proprietary Spring…its all an advertisement for the new NASCAR version of the old CLUE board game! Now you know the rest of the story!
