Go Chrissy Go

3/28/08: SOZ Studios, MI - By Dennis Michelsen "DMIC" (RaceTalkRadio.com)

So why am I so excited about Chrissy Wallace's debut at Martinsville in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series? This young lady has IT. I have had the pleasure to interview a lot of young drivers over the years. Some have a lot of talent. Others have a great personality. Some have both awesome talent and an awesome personality. But a few drivers have that certain thing that sets them apart. They have IT.

What is IT?

Many years ago when Justice Potter Stewart was ruling on an obscenity case he uttered his famous words on pornography, "I know it when I see it." That is the best definition of what IT is too. That certain quality called IT might be different in each driver that has IT. But you end up walking away from watching them drive knowing they have IT! Putting it plan and simple…Chrissy Wallace has IT!

Chrissy Wallace on the Rise

"Sometimes when your name is Wallace people think you get things just handed to you," said the energetic Chrissy Wallace. "I've got to prove my talent just like anyone else." This talented youngster turns eighteen in May and turned down scholarship offers in softball to pursue racing. "Seat time is a big factor in racing without seat time you can't improve," said Wallace. Chrissy Wallace won in the late model division at Hickory Motor Speedway. That takes talent and there is no doubt she has IT.

Smart Development Plan

Are they advancing Chrissy Wallace to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series too soon? Martinsville is a tough track but a natural place to make your NASCAR debut. Before you can be eligible to tackle the bigger tracks you have to prove yourself to NASCAR on the short tracks first. In addition to this race at Martinsville, Mike Wallace has put together a smart game plan for his daughter Chrissy. She will get a chance to develop against strong competition in the Craftsman Truck Series and the ARCA RE/MAX Series. Learning from the mistakes made when her cousin Steven was promoted to the Nationwide Series too fast, Chrissy Wallace will be brought along in the right way.

More Proof She Has IT

If you have any doubt that Chrissy Wallace is a talented driver here is more proof that she has IT. Some drivers whom she has beat at the late model level have complained that she is a rough driver. When was the last time you saw an up and coming woman driver in this sport have that said about her? That same complaint has been made about some of the most exciting drivers at the Cup level today…Kyle Busch comes to mind instantly. Chrissy Wallace races her competition just like she gets raced! That is one more piece of evidence that she will succeed as she moves up the ladder in NASCAR racing.

No we will not see Chrissy Wallace win in her NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut this weekend. But we will be watching history being made. Is she can finish the race this will be a great start to her NASCAR career. Martinsville Speedway is the only track left on the schedule that was there when the sanctioning body began. How fitting that we will witness the birth of a new career for Chrissy Wallace at an old-school NASCAR track. Good luck this weekend Ms. Wallace…we will be pulling for you!
