Grand Theft Sway Bar - ODDS and ENDS

Just when you think a story is going away it gets even juicier! The missing part from the Roush-Fenway team was not a suspension spring and it was not a valve spring either. The alleged theft didn't even occur at Atlanta Motor Speedway this year as it was portrayed in earlier stories. This story is deeper and darker and dirtier than anyone thought when the story leaked in ESPN the Magazine. David Poole of the Charlotte Observer and Sirius Satellite Radio got to the bottom of this story Friday morning at Martinsville Speedway. In case you missed the article it is one of the best examples of in-depth reporting on the issue that I have seen! (Roush Theft) According to Jack Roush the piece in question is a specially built sway bar. The part was taken from under a pit box at Dover last September. Roush-Fenway drivers finished first and second in that race and have come out of the box as the team to beat at the speedways in the early going of 2008. When the story broke on Friday afternoon Michael Waltrip admitted that his team was the one that had the part. Add one more embarrassment to the Cup debut season of Michael Waltrip Racing! They started 2007 getting caught with a fuel additive after qualifying at Daytona. MWR failed to qualify for the Cup race a grand total of forty-four times between their three teams. Now comes the allegation that a part was stolen by one of their employees from a competitor. Michael Waltrip was quick to say it was all an accident. But as David Poole first reported on Sirius Satellite Radio's "Tradin' Paint.," the part in question had a special paint marking sand blasted off before it got returned to Roush-Fenway Racing! "We didn't get the part back until after we told them about it in January," said an agitated Jack Roush at Martinsville Speedway Friday morning. Grand theft sway bar should NOT be tolerated! The MWR employee that was responsible for this alleged theft has no business getting a NASCAR hard card ever again! Of course proving who was the guilty party will be even tougher in this case than in the fuel additive adventure.
This HOT story brought to you this week by Wings ETC, the OFFICIAL Hot Wing Restaurant of SOZ at RaceTalkRadio!
Unlikely Cheerleader for Chrissy
Its one thing to have me cheerleading for Chrissy Wallace's debut in the Craftsman Truck Series this weekend as I did in my article "Go Chrissy" yesterday on SOZ at RaceTalkRadio. But while watching practice from Martinsville I noticed an unlikely cheerleader from the Cup ranks in Chrissy's pit. Two-time Cup champion Tony Stewart was on the radio helping her adjust to this tough track and her new ride. Stewart was very vocal that Chrissy is as ready for her Craftsman Truck series debut as any man driver has been. He was quick to point out that Chrissy Wallace won in the late model division at Hickory Motor Speedway…the first woman in over fifty years to do so! When you consider the NASCAR legends that got their start at Hickory she is in great company! Most of the other women drivers that have come to NASCAR have been in sub-par equipment so we never got a chance to see what they could do. Chrissy Wallace will have top-notch Toyota Tundra's from Germaine Racing under her and with experience WILL be a winner in NASCAR! You can take that prediction to the bank race fans!
Why Denny Hamlin Will Win on Sunday
My pick to win the Goody's Cool Orange 500 is Denny Hamlin. Let's take a look at the reasons why you will be hearing Denny Hamlin Sunday evening on "Couch Potato Corner" on RaceTalkRadio.com! Each of the last two years drivers that started in the first three rows finished in the top three at an incredible rate…Hamlin starts outside the front row on Sunday. In his five career starts at Martinsville Denny Hamlin has only finished outside of the top eight once. Hamlin led 125 laps here last April. Make sure Denny Hamlin is on your Fantasy Racing roster this week. Tune in Sunday after the race to hear all of the post race media center interviews LIVE from Martinsville Speedway right here on www.racetalkradio.com!
Live media center coverage of the winner's press conference is brought to you this week by Rockingham Speedway, home of the Carolina 500 on May 4th! Get your tickets today at RockinghamRacewayPark.com! Our thanks to NASCAR for granting us permission to use this audio every week to virtually put the fans inside the media center! Media Center audio may not be reused without express written consent from NASCAR and RaceTalkRadio.com.
Silly Season Salvo
Joey Logano- Look for Caterpillar to move over to Joe Gibbs Racing in 2009 and support Joey Logano. Whether that will be at the Cup level or Nationwide Series will depend on how well Logano performs and whether NASCAR raises the Cup series age restriction.
Greg Biffle- Running second in points Biffle is now the hottest name in his free agent year. Look for Greg Biffle to sign with Roush-Fenway Racing by the time the Cup series heads back to Daytona in July.
Jamie McMurray or David Ragan- Which driver will be cut from the ranks at Roush-Fenway Racing to get them down to the four-team limit? McMurray has one more year after this on his contract but look for him to come to a deal with Roush-Fenway later this summer. In exchange for a contract extension McMurray will move to the Yates Racing organization and take one of his current sponsors with him.
Fourth Richard Childress Racing Team- This team will be started late in the season with Scot Wimmer making a few select starts to prep the team for full time action in 2009. But Wimmer will be back in the Nationwide Series next season as RCR does sign Bobby Labonte to fill out their fourth team.
