Auction Begins
Ryan Newmans door is open. Open for
bid, that is. Starting July 13, race fans can place their
bid on an actual door panel from Newmans No. 12 Alltel
Dodge Avenger through an online auction at www.alltelracing.com.
As heard on Newmans biweekly podcast, the Penske driver
tells listeners that he only donates autographed portions
of raced cars, not wrecked cars. No Kyle Busch or Pablo
Montoya marks on this door.
Breaking
News: Ryan Newman announces he'll leave Penske at the end
of the 2008 season
Penske
Racing and Ryan Newman have agreed to part ways at the end
of the 2008 season. Rumors have been hot and heavy that
Newman is schedule to become the second driver for the newly
formed Stewart Haas Racing. This announcement between Penske
and Newman paves the way for Newman to accept Tony Stewart's
offer to drive for his team beginning in 2009.
Over
the weekend Newman stated that he had up to four options
on where he could drive next season including an opportunity
to return to Penske. However, Newman has said that he needed
to see an improvement in the teams performance before he'd
consider returning to Penske. As this announcement comes,
sources have told SOZ that Newman is serious about joining
Stewart Haas Racing and that announcement could come as
early as today or an official announcement would come during
the Indianapolis race weekend on July 25th-27th.
Sources
confirm that other options for Newman include taking over
the No. 20 ride for Joe Gibbs Racing or driving for Richard
Childress Racing's fourth entry in 2009 where General Mills
will become the sponsor.
They
said what?
Roger Penske, Owner Penske Racing: "We want to thank
Ryan for his hard work and contributions to Penske Racing
over the past nine years. We wish Ryan all the best for
the future and we'll continue to focus our efforts on making
the Chase with Ryan and the Alltel Dodge team this season."
Jeff
Fox, Chief Operating Officer from Alltel: "From the
early days in the ARCA series to our team celebration in
Victory Lane at this year's Daytona 500, Alltel Wireless
has enjoyed a memorable, eight-year relationship with Ryan
Newman. Ryan has been an outstanding representative on and
off-the track, and we're very proud of the results the partnership
has delivered to our brand. We remain committed to our sponsorship
of the #12 Alltel Dodge and look forward to having Ryan
behind the wheel for the rest of the 2008 season. We wish
him all the best in his next endeavor."
As
for Stewart Haas Racing, rumors continue to fly about Newman
and DEI's Martin Truex Jr., joining the team. But sources
have stated as early as this morning that Truex was seen
over the Chicagoland weekend being courted by Penske Racing
officials including driver Kurt Busch to replace Newman
at Penske Racing. (Note: Truex to Penske is a rumor and
not official)
