NASCAR Embraces Their Stereotype
Dennis Michelsen

NASCAR Embraces Their Stereotype NASCAR just sent a dangerous precedent by not having some sort of punishment against Kyle Busch. They also made a statement about how the value of the entertainment is more important than having law and order at the race track. Its almost as if NASCAR brass decided that the best thing for their brand is to go 100% World Wrestling Entertainment. NASCAR is embracing their stereotype in an attempt to boost ratings and attendance. What Happened...

Does Kyle Busch Have Friends?
Mike Harper - SOZ

I’m watching an angry Kyle Busch walk down pit road to find Joey Logano. Kyle is fuming that he was wrecked going into the last turn on the last lap by Joey.  Once found, without hesitation, Kyle throws a punch at Joey and Joey’s crew pounces on Kyle. This picture isn’t new but in the case of Kyle Busch, it’s odd. He was basically alone except for one crew member and a fleeing PR representative. (Note: A second crew member...

Was the Daytona 500 Rigged?
Mike Harper - SOZ

Social media went crazy after Kurt Busch won the 59th running of the Daytona 500. Surprisingly it wasn’t because angry fans dislike Kurt Busch, but because his sponsor Monster Energy is also the title sponsor for the Cup Series – NASCAR’s elite racing series. Where Have the NASCAR Critics Gone?
Mike Harper - SOZ

Statement about the future of the Thunder Crew Radio Show is at the bottom of this column… If you’ve followed NASCAR over the past five years you know without a doubt the times have changed. As I mentioned in ‘Did NASCAR Push Carl Edwards Away?’ the industry will continue to get smaller.  It’s not all bad and it’s not all NASCAR’s fault.  For example, the Internet and economic challenges from several years ago killed print media.  This caused the job...

NASCAR Never Gets Mad They Get Even
Dennis Michelsen

NASCAR Never Gets Mad They Get Even If anyone knows how the inner workings of racing works it should be Roger Penske. But a few weeks ago after a controversial finish at Richmond International Raceway in the final regular season NASCAR Sprint Cup Race the Captain could not contain himself with his displeasure. Roger Penske said NASCAR better start calling infractions on restarts or restarts will continue to get more out of hand. Roger you had to know this call...

Fantasy Insight- Brickyard 400 Edition
Dennis Michelsen

Fantasy Insight- Brickyard 400 Edition Handicapping a NASCAR race is very similar to handicapping a horse race. Some drivers are “Horses for Courses” performing better at certain lengths or styles of tracks. By incorporating three basic ingredients in a special formula based on statistical analysis of 15 years of racing data the Pro Power Ratings have been developed. Just like Beyers Figures in horse racing the best pick is not always the highest rated competitor but reaching threshold values narrows...
